About six months ago, I started listening to The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey podcast (you can find it on iTunes). It’s pretty much changed my life, and is my gospel on the way to and from work. Literally, I don’t even know what the radio is anymore.
Aside from HIGHLY recommending the show, which is like an actual happy hour with your girlfriends, I’m stealing something from Jamie that she does with each of her guests. Jamie asks about three things they’re loving right now. And I’m obsessed with this portion. I’ve found books, makeup, scripture, you name it from this.
So–I’m taking it! Each Friday I’ll post five things I’m loving right now (you know…five…Friday…faves…) and links to where you can get them.
Let’s get started: Winter Edition!
1. The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey Podcast (duh)
Aside from being the inspiration for this series, this podcast is KILLER. Jamie is hilarious and she interviews some rockstars (Jen Hatmaker, Korie Robertson, Emily Freeman, Jess Connolly, etc.). And, since this is the winter edition, this is great for times when you’re curled up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of coffee but don’t want to get lost in the vortex of TV/Netflix. So listen to Jamie!
I HIGHLY suggest listening to Podcast # 68 with Jami Nato. This knocked the wind out of me with honesty and haunting beauty. Just listen.
All of Jamie’s interviews are around an hour, which for me, is a perfect episode-a-day, listening to half in the morning and half on my way home. Just so good, you guys. You can find them on iTunes fo free.

Okay I can’t get this blanket off my body. It’s silly comfortable. So soft. I should’ve bought forty and put them everywhere. AND IT’S ONLY 19.99. Just buy it.
If you have the burden of super dry skin during the winter (or year-round like me), buy this. It’s a little pricey for lotion, but the 6 oz bottle seems to last forever. I also have a travel size that I keep in my purse. This lotion has no scent, and is great for itchy, dry skin and even eczema! (You can also find this at Sephora.)
During the winter, I HAVE to have socks on. Really, I have to have socks on all the time, because my acupuncturist once told me that if my feet are cold, my uterus is cold. And no one wants a cold uterus, #amirite? I have a few pairs of cozy AND cute slipper socks–these, some from Target, some from Wal-Mart. Let’s keep those uteri warm, ladies. (And these come in different colors!)
5. Starbucks Green Tea Latte
Okay, I saved this one for last because it is NOT for everyone. This is the Starbucks Green Tea Latte, described like this on their website:
Smooth and creamy matcha is lightly sweetened and served with steamed milk. A perfect zen.
Bless. Okay so if you haven’t tried matcha, it’ll be…different. It does NOT taste like green tea. It kind of tastes like seaweed at first. But it gets super delicious by sip 3. I order mine with nonfat milk, sweetened. It’s a good pick me up for the afternoons that I don’t want coffee. WellnessMama says that matcha has 60X the antioxidants of spinach and 7X the antioxidants of high quality dark chocolate, among like a billion other health benefits. I tell myself the way I order it is still healthy, but I bet it’s just crazy healthy if you get it unsweetened and with something like coconut milk (although, SB does add sugar to their matcha powder, FYI.)
I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU to try this and drink the whole thing and then tell me what you think about it. Seriously. Do it.

OKAY…so since #5 is something that you might totally hate, I’m including a 6th Friday Fave:
6. Waking up early!
So, you might hate this one, too. Forgive me.
Lately, my anxiety has been kicking my butt. To combat weekday anxiety, Matt and I have started waking up at 5am (to put this in context–Matt used to wake up at 6:15 and me at 6:40). We spend the first 15 minutes on the couch, without the TV on. Matt usually gets out of the shower, wakes me up, and goes and makes me a cup of coffee #thesweetest. Then we spend time each reading scripture out loud. We’re working through the Psalms right now, though I’m know to skip around THE ENTIRE BIBLE when it’s my turn. Sometimes we talk about what we read, sometimes we don’t. And then we pray for our days, and turn the news on.
This has been SO HELPFUL for my anxiety. It really helps me ease into the day, whereas I used to get up at 6:40 and be out the door by 7:21. Now I have almost two hours to slowly start my day, and it’s just so beneficial.
Just a note: There’s probably only one thing I love more than bread (okay and also besides Jesus and Matt #calmyourself) and that is SLEEP. So I feel you when you say this is just so hard. It’s not though. Make it what you want. Make it cozy, have a cup of coffee, use warm lighting. And, with most things that help me get closer to the Lord, I’ve found God totally helps me wake up at 5am. He wants me to spend time with him before I start my day, and he rewards me for doing so. Just try it for one week and see what happens.
Okay, that’s it for week 1! I hope you LOVE these things!
